Prerequisite: None
The Nuclear Regulator Commission (NRC) has created a system for the electronic creation, transmission, and storage of Safeguards Information (SGI), known as Safeguards Information Local Area Network Electronic Safe (SLES). SLES has two components: SGI LAN and E-Safe. The SGI LAN component is a local area network with a secure architecture dedicated for use in SGI data processing. The E-Safe component is a secure electronic repository for SGI records. The SGI LAN provides access to E-Safe. E-Safe users are able to create and capture data in and retrieve data from the E-Safe repository.
There are several methods for capturing SGI records into E-Safe including the scanning of paper documents containing SGI, indirect and direct submission, and the creation of electronic documents in the system itself. The adoption of these capture techniques into the normal daily routine of NRC staff will help ensure that the E-Safe repository contains all SGI created or received by NRC, thereby eliminating the need for separate collections to be maintained by NRC staff.
